Hadley, Massachusetts is a beautiful farm town located between Northampton and Amherst. I've always loved how close Hadley has been to all the hustle and bustle of Western Massachusetts. It's minutes from Amherst, just across the bridge from Northampton, 30 minutes from Greenfield, and 20 from the Holyoke/Springfield area.
Despite the 'bad rap' Hadley gets for Route 9's industrialism, Hadley is rife with farmland and rolling hills. It was a wonderful place to grow up.
My only complaint for the town would be for the people who 'run' it. It's difficult to describe, but if you don't attend the public schools, you will be excluded from the 'town click'. Our family did not, which made participating in Hadley Cal Ripken very awkward. However, it is easy to avoid.

This area is great for grocery shopping. It's right within a farming town so you can get many organic vegetables for a cheap price. There are plazas all over the areas where you can buy clothing, auto repair items, books, toys and more. This is also a five college area so there are plenty od convenience stores, restaurants, bars and clubs one can go to.
This is new England so the winters here can get pretty rough. Studded snow tires are a must most years and lots of heavy layers to keep you warm in below freezing temperatures. Ther have been a couple freak weather incidents, but usually it's just the winter you have to worry about.
