Gun Barrel City Reviews
I fairly small town located in the Kaufman county of Texas and side-by-side with Mabank TX. Mabank ISD is the local school filled with mostly wonderful teachers and the city is expanding. The community, while primarily white and traditionally southern, are incredibly friendly.
Gun Barrel City is a small town in Texas where there is a significant amount of Historical background. The town is known for its family friendly environment, and there are many town-wide events on holidays. The schools have very high testing scores, and the teachers work hard at their jobs. There are some very run down parts of the town, but the nice neighborhoods overshadow the bad ones.
I lived on the edge of Gun Barrel City for almost four years. The town gradually got worse and it is not a safe place to live anymore. Drugs and violence have taken over. The lake is nice, but is extremely busy almost all the time. Jobs are scarce and commuting to Athens/Tyler or Dallas is your best bet for a higher paying job. We sold our house and moved to Arizona because we just couldn't take living there any longer.
