I grew up in Greenfield but currently reside in the greater Boston area. Growing up this town was fantastic! Greenfield had an overall wonderful experience of a small town feel with a tight knit community. Unfortunately, this town was hit pretty hard with the opioid epidemic and growing homeless population. The public schools have renovated but unfortunately the programs are not as strong as they once were. Whether it is a shift in interests or budgeting, it is sad to see there are not even enough kids to have a football program in Greenfield. There is a growing downtown with better nightlife (Hawks and Reed, The Hanger) which looks promising. Greenfield is attempting to clean up what was broken. I still do visit frequently and hope for a bright future for this town.

Greenfield is a bustling town located on the Connecticut River in northwestern Massachusetts. Being the administrative center of Franklin County, Greenfield has a growing economy and a highly competitive public high school. In addition, Greenfield is surrounded by beautiful aspects of nature, since it is located in the Pioneer Valley. Nearby are various waterfalls, trails for hiking in the hills, and possibilities to observe different species of wildlife in their natural habitats. The community is tight-knitted and the people are warm and friendly. I have lived in Greenfield my whole life. I would not have traded this diverse city for any other location.
First is to correct the ill-informed and unfair characterizations of this town by some others who have posted here. Greenfield is a city, the county seat, and it has the positives and negatives of cities. Drug problems are everywhere, and it's unfair to single us out like some have done. We don't put on facades like our supposedly hip neighbors to the north and south. But we have most of what they brag about, like a vibrant music scene, the arts, and great food choices. We were named one of Massachusett's Cultural Districts. We have the most cooperative worker-owned businesses than probably any town or city in the area. There's a lot of easily accessible outdoor recreation, and
we have a great range of shopping choices, both in town and nearby, and one of the last true independent department stores, Wilsons.
