Green Valley Reviews

I've lived here in Green Valley, Arizona since 2006. The dry desert air and spectacular surrounding mountain views are good for physical and mental health. The only reason to drive to Tucson is Trader Joe's. Everything else I need is right here in Green Valley: inexpensive housing, lower-than-average cost of living, excellent doctors and hospital, good restaurants, big/chain and Mom&Pop stores, river valley with beautiful walking/bicycling trails, nearby mountain trails, and nearby art and history of Tubac. I've lived in New York City, San Diego, Los Angeles and Hawaii, and I like Green Valley the best!
I've spent most of my "consumer" life for the past 15 years in Green Valley, from laundry when my washer broke, to medical appointments, dining out, food shopping, and generic shopping for everything that can be had there without going to Tucson. For many years, it was a friendly, courteous place and my most serious complaint was that everything ran on the dawdly side due to slow retirees. (mind you, I am a retiree). However, in the last two years, it has become a mean place. Drivers in parking lots with road rage. Customers who intentionally cough at you without covering their mouth and nose. Today, a female customer in an aisle ridiculed and pantomimed my walk with a cane and then started belittling me. Let me add that I'm tall and considered pretty, but I do use a cane. Honestly, every time I now walk about in Green Valley, I have nasty experiences while minding my own business. I would not consider retiring there and plan to shop elsewhere from now on.
I have been living in Green Valley for 10 years, it is nice but changing drastically. The retired people from other states seem to feel this is theirs and they can come here and behave poorly. They do not look for Motorcyclists, they are curt and nasty to younger people who work at the many business's, they cut in line at stores, and behave like entitled snobs. They did not want schools here, they wanted the price of houses, property tax and goods to stay in a bubble, all because they are tired of being cold. This is now a much bigger community of families and young people than it once was, which the snowbirds thinks this gives them a green light to behave poorly. It has low crime, but the old tired snobs from Michigan, Minnesota, New England and Canada all but ruin this place. I do not take any rude behavior without handing it right back to them. I am not young, I am 61, but I do not behave as if I am more important than anyone else. Otherwise this is a great place to live.
