Great Bend Reviews

I moved to Great Bend 20 years ago right out of high school and I also have family that lives here. Great Bend residents want to have growth and job opportunities, but the governing body that can deny or get things to come to town are the reason. It really depends on if it will benefit them or there golf buddy's.
Great Bend is a small farming community two hours west of Wichita. We have a charming old town square that the city decorates for Christmas to music. When the COVID-19 stay-at-home order went into effect, everyone got out and dragged Mainstreet just like the old days, horns honking and music blaring. We have a "big" Dillons grocery store, Braums, and of course, Wallmart. Crime is pretty low, even with a severe drug-making problem. There are plenty of places to eat out. except for a decent steak house. Traffic is pretty minimal except at noon and five pm. We have two hospitals in town, but only one has in-patient beds. There are plenty of churches to choose from too. Coming from the traffic and hassle of living in Dallas/Fort Worth, TX, I love the simplicity and slowness of Great Bend.
Great Bend is the city that I have lived in for as long as I can remember. I tend to describe it as the perfect size, but not. It is large enough that there are plenty of people to meet and plenty of events to attend. It is small enough though, that traffic is almost never an issue and is an easy to navigate city. I have enjoyed growing up in this town. We have a beautiful park called Veterans Park, and we have a very nice movie theatre. Most of the people are great. It struggles with meth production and distribution as well as other narcotics (so I hear, whether through news paper or others in town). Despite it's struggle as a drug hub, the town is great for most any family or person.
