Decent little town that hunts to achieve that so called "small town" feeling. Now not to knock the town to where someone reading this think it isn't a place to visit or leave; on the contrary. Downtown Granite City is becoming more and more of it's former self - booming local businesses, beautiful park space, and even local art is represented. Within these establishments you will always get the chance to run into a real, authentic "small town" person.

The crowning jewel is the Wilson Park located almost in the center of town. Comes with everything you'd expect - and more! With locals taking it upon themselves it has grown with more and more for anyone. There's now a skate park for any skateboarder, BMXer, or whatever. The park holds special events for charities, local schools, and anything else to help further the community and it's people.

May not have what local neighbors have but it has it's own charm some can appreciate.

Suncoke is directly behind the house I'm currently renting, its a disgusting plume of grey/green puke colored smoke. I understand why Suncoke exists, but it's time to reevaluate and come up with a different approach. It makes the nearby homes age quicker, and I assume the humans age quicker as well.
My experience of granite over the past 20 plus years has been extremely uneventful. The schools here are average. The town has a steel mill in the heart of the city which makes the air quality horrible, and leaves a film on most of the nearby vehicles. The downtown granite is slowly falling apart with all the empty business buildings. Granite city's park is lovely, we have a ice skating rink, an area for skate boarding, lots of jungle gyms, tennis courts, and a large park pool. The best part about granite city is it isn't to large and people really get to know each other!
