The apartments were pretty terribly maintained and extremely expensive. I realize I'm in Denver, but when I moved in there was a plant growing through my kitchen floor! Downtown Golden is great, super small, super cute. If you're wealthy the houses are very nice, and the neighbor is very safe. It's all students and families.
Golden is a wonderful city within Denver's borders. It has quite the local scene having the Coors Brewery next to it. It works with the local University to improve it's education. That does sound a bit ironic, but they have sponsored their own building at the Colorado School of Mines. In terms of local events, every weekend during the summer, there is a wonderful Farmer's Market that sells a wide range of locally made products, not just produce. Near Christmas time the local creek is laced with Christmas lights which are absolutely breath-taking. The local scene also has a thing for classic cars and have a parade for them almost every weekend in the Summer.
Golden holds an eloquent charm. Through the heart of the town runs a very popular attraction, Clear Creek. The creek has walking and biking trails both paved and unpaved allowing for a large variety of recreational activities. I lived here for twenty one years and enjoyed every moment. The town is in a valley, with natural scenery and outdoor activities in every direction. What I enjoyed most about living in Golden Colorado was the many impressive hiking trails for all experience levels. As well as, the nearby attractions of downtown. Denver is accessible by car, light rail or bus within only fifteen minutes. The only thing that I would like to see improve about Golden is the traffic direction systems, main street alone has nine traffic circles which can feel very repetitive. Absolutely add Golden to your travel list, check out clear creek and local bike trails!
