I live on the border of Glendale and Milwaukee. That being said, my experience differs a bit from the average resident. I've heard gunshots at night, had car break-ins on my street. Despite these setbacks, I've always loved where I live. Glendale is a diverse community. When I went to school, I was surrounded by people of every background and race. Our school was a community--we looked out for each other no matter what. The Milwaukee River, despite its flaws, is an anchor of our community. Our parks surround it, providing views that have the ability to take your breath away. There's no shortage of wildlife in Glendale--especially squirrels, which have been known to eat through plastic garbage cans if they get desperate. New buildings stand side by side with old as the community renews itself while still remaining close to its roots. Glendale has its problems--there are potholes, litter, seemingly constant construction--but at the end of the day, I wouldn't trade it for anything else.

Glendale was overall, a wonderful city to grow up in. There's plenty to do without travelling too far, but not so big that it's overwhelming. There are parks within a short walk and an extensive bike path many people use to exercise. The schools also have very good educational programs. Bayshore mall is a great place to meet up with friends, get a bite to eat, and do some shopping. There are a couple libraries which I would use frequently to study at, since I could find any reference book I needed. Public transport is not the easiest to arrange in some areas, however. Winters in Glendale are very cold, and summers are pretty hot.
Glendale is a very friendly community, with locals constantly greeting you and making you feel welcome. It's also got great schooling systems! Would highly recommend!
