Glencoe is not a town I would recommend to anyone. I am a previous long-time resident. As another review said, pretentious is a good way to describe it. Many residents are flashy, entitled, self-centered, out of touch, need everyone to know how much money they have. I can count on one hand the people I met who were genuine or authentic. Many residents don’t mow their own lawns or clean their own house or raise their own kids. These values didn’t align with my family’s so we moved out of the area. It just didn’t feel like a homey, welcoming community. In addition, I was disappointed with the public schools, especially given their “elite” status. On a positive note, the town is beautiful and near the lake.
Very pretentious, new-rich and toxic place. We were fooled by the idyllic imagery of the town when we relocated from out of state (CA) within a rushed time period. We hoped for a well connected community with friendly people to raise our family. The reality....Majority (not all) of residents are rude, egocentric elites.... 'racing through stop signs' (rules don't apply to me..'don't you know who I AM'?? attitudes), outsourcing everything, including their kids raised by nannies and staff. 99% of kids shipped off to 'all summer' camps/ Ghost town during Summer/Holidays Don't expect to know or ever interact with neighbors unless it involves a recommendation for service staff or a complaint. We've learned that not all of the North Shore villages are this way, thank goodness for them! The one thing these "haves" DON"T seem to "have" is manners, kindness, gratitude or joy. If you are seeking neighbors with these attributes, we suggest you try a different town.
There is a nice sense of community in Glencoe. People look out for each other and come together whenever tragedy strikes one of their neighbors. The schools are top-notch, too. My children received an excellent education.
