The seasons all fall within what one would typically expect. The winters are cold and harsh, spring is nice and moderate with some amount of rain, summer is dry and hot, and fall is cool and dry. However, due to the rain shadow effect, not a lot of rain falls here. Natural disasters rarely ever occur. The only danger would be from wildfires.
In the area I'm in the crime is very low, however within a 5 minute drive I can be in an area filled with gang activity and shootings. The police are visible in certain places when watching for speeding, but otherwise I never really see them.
There some big companies in the area, and then there are mom and pop shops that fill in the gaps. Since most of this area is in relative poverty, the quality of any of the stores is low. However, everything needed can be bought within a 20 minute drive.
