I apparently integrated the area within a 5 mile radius. This is one of those places reminiscent of the movie Get Out. There's no flagrant racism exhibited PUBLICLY, but people will stop their cars (& trucks) and stare wondering to themselves "when did THAT colored fella move in the neighborhood??" I stay in my house and never go out in the dark. Logistically, it's great. I'm at a corner of a bus stop to go into Kansas City, there's a Starbucks nearby, and my girlfriend grew up a couple of blocks away so she is familiar with the area and knows the best restaurants. I'm in a home where the homeowner is of the volition he doesn't want to use the bathroom used by a black man, so he washes up and brushes his teeth in the kitchen. REALLY??? I'm on long-term Airbnb arrangements which actually terminate this weekend so I'll be more cautious about my next residence choice..
Gladstone is a safe, affordable suburb of Kansas City. It has most anything you could need in a neighborhood in terms of grocery stores, medical care, restaurants, etc.. I do wish there were more unique or diverse options for entertainment, like you might find in Kansas City, but overall living in Gladstone is a good experience.
