If you’re looking for a small, very safe town with a great school system, but don’t mind driving 20 minutes away in any direction for shopping, dinner out, nightlife or entertainment, Georgetown is the town for you. If you’re looking for ALL of the things listed above in one singular town, Georgetown probably isn’t the town for you. Mr parents, having both grown up in nearby cities, were looking for “the country life”, so they raised us in Georgetown. It’s quiet, safe, and most of the community knows each other. I was house hunting a few years back and definitely did debate moving back, but decided on a town that had more of a downtown that I could easily walk to. If you’re looking for a bustling downtown but still want a close-knit feel, you may want to consider towns like Andover, Newburyport, and Portsmouth. If you want a small town, but, again, don’t mind having to get in the car and driving to any form of entertainment, I think Georgetown is a great bet.
I grew up on a quiet cul-de-sac in a very safe neighborhood where we could leave the doors open and never once had to worry about getting robbed. I attended all of the public schools and graduated from Georgetown High. The school system was average at the time, however, I did hear it's phenomenal now. I thought Georgetown was a great place to grow up in that it was safe and everybody knew everybody else, so the people in the community definitely looked out for one another. It's lovely for young families who want a nice, quiet town to raise their kids in. The only problem for me was that it was a little too quiet. The downtown is definitely lacking—besides a small grocery store, a pharmacy, a CVS, and a few pizza shops, there isn't too much else going on. If you're looking for a happening downtown with restaurants, shopping, bars, and coffee shops, Georgetown probably isn't the town for you. All in all, it was a safe town to grow up, but there isn't much going on otherwise.
I love getting to experience all four seasons, getting to drive to the beach whenever I want, and generally feeling safe and accepted wherever I go/ Many people complain about Georgetown being a small town with nothing to do but I’d have to disagree as Georgetown is just a short drive away from a multitude of different options.
