The city is in desperate need of improvement in several areas. For a city of 18,000 it's very much lacking in terms of shopping opportunities. As one new business moves in, two move out. Many promises have been broken over the abandoned Singing River Mall property with no solid plans for the near future. There's also a heavy police presence in the city, hinting the city is desperate for revenue and/or the crime rate is elevated. Restaurant and food choices are very limited but you'll find no shortage of gas stations. Lastly, there's simply not a whole lot to do in the city. Some of the nature trails are nice but in terms of entertainment, there's basically nothing. After living there for nearly 20 years I grew tired of waiting for things to improve and ultimately moved away. If things do improve then that's fantastic but for some of us it's too little, too late. Something needs to be done ASAP. Ocean Springs is flourishing next door.
Gautier is devoid of any decent social activity or business. I hope you like fast food because that's just about all there is. The only thing this city has going for it is its location. It's right next to Ocean Springs which is a fantastic place to be. Gautier is a remarkably unclean city. Filthy gas stations and run down, empty buildings are littered throughout the city. There are a few nice neighborhoods near the water and to no one's surprise they're gated off from the rest of the city.
Gautier is a good small basic town. It is good for just having a normal life with a family. Nothing too special, but the town has great schools and nice neighborhoods. I have lived in the area almost all my life and so has my family. Gautier doesn’t really have any great scenery or things to do. It can get boring at times, but it’s still a good place.
