Traffic volumes have increased dramatically in the 10 years I’ve lived here — especially during commuting hours. Factors such as regional population growth, infill development (both housing and industrial), continuous street and highway construction, automobile accidents and low speed limits at empty school pedestrian zones, combine to make a drive through Garland a daily battle. My 11-mile commute from North Garland across to Dallas regularly lasts 40 minutes now. I haven’t noticed any efforts from the City to address the situation. High density, multi family projects and retail continue to be constructed at high-volume roads. If there is an Environmental Impact Report process in Garland, it either has extremely relaxed guidelines or is ignored. For the sake of Garland’s residents, it’s time for change.
Garland is truly the place to be when one aspires to meet a diverse population.
As an upcoming senior, I experienced a diverse array of individuals. Although the school is predominantly Hispanic, there was still a noticeable minority of Asians, Whites, African-Americans, etc. Every single group of these individuals had something to offer. While this is simply my high school alone, it also relates to the general populace as well. My experiences at Garland for the past 18 years of my life were truly phenomenal. They are experiences that I would never want to erase, and I pledge to everyone in Texas to visit Garland once in their lives. Although I would like to see some change in trying to bring more involvement to the community via volunteering opportunities and events, there isn't much that I would like to change about this almost-perfect city. Additionally, I admired how beautiful the parks are in the cities. With parks such as lake parks and dog parks - there is no limit to fun.

Garland is a nice town! Seems like it is still developing a bit, as there is a decent amount of construction around their town center. But nice suburb, relatively close to Dallas. Great for students living off campus or for those employed in Dallas and looking for a suburban living scene!
