Garden City has it's perks but has a long way to go to become one of the more desirable places to live in the Boise area. Access to the greenbelt is a plus and the convenient proximity to grocery stores is great. There have been an influx of new homes along the southeast side of the river adding to the appeal of the area along with locally owned bakeries and coffee shops.
That being said, much of Garden City is made up of a number trailer parks which harbor large amounts of crime. Garden City has the highest crime rate compared to the surrounding cities. I encourage anyone to view crime maps of the Garden City area and especially the ADA county sex offender registry map. The amount of activity is alarming. Because of this, I never use the Garden City side of the greenbelt and instead detour across the bridge to use the Boise side.
I am encouraged by the direction Garden City seems to be heading but, until the majority of the trailer parks are gone, I wouldn't recommend living here.

Living in Garden City has many great benefits. The atmosphere is quite clean almost year round with awesome view of the mountains, which is also great for exercising and hiking. The perks of living in here is being so close to the Snake River. So there are always fun outdoor activities to do. The only downside to living in Garden City is that there are plenty suspicious activity late at night. At certain times through-out the area might seem unsafe. However, the local law enforcement provide plenty of patrols. Overall, Garden City is a very vibrant and fun suburb of Boise, Idaho! Whether you're raising a family or you're a single college student attending Boise State University; Garden City is the place to be.
In my opinion Garden City has a lot of potential. As of right now, it is kind of run down. This area is a mix between old infrastructures and new buildings. A lot of new businesses have been popping up recently. If the city could just focus on putting cool new businesses in this area, I think it would thrive.
