Pros:
- Texas hospitality!
- Endless fishing / sight seeing
- Slow paced. "Island Time" is real
- Small town vibes
- The college scene is modern, but not overly "progressive"
- Lots of seafood / bar food / brunches
- Diversity, you can meet people from all corners of the globe if you visit the right places
- Good place for maritime jobs

Cons:
- Common complaint: "Nothing to do"
- The beach gets old quick. It's overcrowded, dirty, and the water is murky. You can only make that visit so many times before not wanting sand in your car trumps getting into bath water on a hot day
- A 10 minute drive turns into a 1 hour drive during the summer. If the news mentions "blue water" you're screwed
- No one has a problem holding up traffic for a parking spot while a family loads up. Everyone else is going 10 under
- Job options are entry level / poorly paying outside the maritime industry
- The locals love their schools, but... There's also a pay to play option if you're into private schools

I was raised in Galveston, Texas and I must say that it is a wonderful place. The people in Galveston loves to welcome new people and they are such loving people. Holidays are most exciting because people come out from all over the world to walk on the beautiful beach. I am so grateful to be able to say that I am a resident of Galveston Island!
Definitely move to Island Bay Resort Apartment Homes - 409-741-5300... So nice and quiet! I moved there over 3 years ago and moved to their renovated unit apartment. It is right on the water and off the seawall hustle and bustle. I store my boat on premises and fish off the dock. The staff and management are so great and helpful in any situation. Relax in the pool in the evenings with a cold drink!
