There is an abundance of accessibility when it comes to shops and transportation.
If you have a job with city, the hospitals or are a student you can ride the buses pretty much for free. Densely populated and metropolitan yet still had hidden treasures of nature

Gainesville is a gem when comparing it to its more rural surroundings. The cost of living, in relation to it's activity offerings, are a bit left to desire. This is in comparison to other colleges towns. Overall it's a nice place.
I arrived we in January last ear for school at the university of Florida. I came from a big town in Florida so it was important to me to move somewhere that felt lie home. Gainesville feels like home and has a lot to do to get my mind away from the school environment.
I was a student at the University of Florida. I personally believe it is the best college town. There are the springs less than 30 minutes away and the beach just an hour away. We are less then 2 hours away a big cities such as Jacksonville, orlando, and tampa. The scenery is beautiful as well. The weather is always great as well.
It's crowded but a great environment for college students. Many restaurants and places to hang out with friends and friendly for pedestrians.
I have lived in Gainesville for over 20 years, my time here has had wonderful memories. I have raised my family here and this is a growing city. This city has expanded and is on its way to becoming like Orlando and Tampa. This is a great place to raise a family and be close with friends and family. The university is wonderful here and so are the hospitals.
I love Gainesville. The people, history and football make it amazing. It's close to lots of springs and the beach!
It is a great family town, but also great for singles and those without children. I would like to see a more queer-based community.
I have only been living in Gainesville Florida for the past three weeks. I started my Summer B classes at the University of Florida which is located here in Gainesville. So far I have not been able to explore the city as yet, I cannot give my true impressions of the city. However, I look forward to spending more time visiting the area around the university as I prepare for the next four years here.
Outside of UF's campus, some parts of Gainesville can be pretty sketchy. However, there are quite a few things to do in the surrounding areas around Gainesville. It can be pretty difficult if you are a student at UF without access to a car, but the bus system is pretty decent so many people do make use of it.
The food scene has improved a lot over the 4 years I lived there for school. Rent can also be relatively cheap if you look in the right areas. The only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because it can be quite dark at night due to the lack of street lights. There have been cases of rape and sexual assault, so the area is not the safest at night.
Lots of hiking and nature trails available, good for fans of the outdoors - natural springs, trails, botanical gardens. College town for the University of Florida. Two large hospitals, home of the UF Health hospital system, level 1 trauma center. Busy traffic during August-May, slows down in the summer.
Gainesville for the most part feels very safe. I love how there are always people walking around or on their bikes. People here are generally very kind, open, and willing to chat. There is an abundance of access to shops, produce, stores, parks, playgrounds, and so much more. There is a lot of diversity in the culture and food which makes it fun to experience. My only complaint are the drivers who are very aggressive and often take unnecessary or inconsiderate risks. Archer road is also extremely busy at all times and you often end up waiting several times to go through one light. Overall, I have loved living here and would recommend it to anyone, especially if you want to experience all that Florida has to offer without extreme weather or the overcrowded cities.

Gainesville is a pretty quiet and safe city with lots of job opportunities and things to do for fun. There are many great restaurants to visit here and it is near many parks and springs.
Beautiful small city. A large population of students because Gainesville is home to the University of Florida and the local community college, Santa Fe. There are countless options for food and activities for people of all ages!
Gainesville has incredibly high utilities costs, most houses in the area are significantly overpriced, the violent crime rate is very high, the schools are struggling, and local government officials don't seem to care about any of this.
