Friday Harbor Reviews
Rating 4 out of 5 10 reviews
Living in the islands is wonderful but with many caveats. Very expensive, tons of new transplants have changed the face of the once rural setting. The same for once idyllic Orcas Island. We lived there for 6 wonderful years.
We had to move away due to lack of affordable housing and the issues with the Ferry system. We greatly underestimated the impact of the Ferry system and the end result it had in our move to the mainland.
So much of these island properties no longer no longer consist of locals, but Air BnB run communities.

Friday Harbor is an amazingly beautiful tourist town. As a full time resident the summer months of tourism can be exceedingly tedious, but in the off-season when it is primarily locals on island, there is truly nothing better. That being said, it is small town vibes meaning everyone knows your business. Which can be good (amazing sense of community) or bad (you really can't keep anything quiet for too long).
Friday Harbor is a beautiful, quaint town on the island of San Juan, the largest of the San Juan Islands. It's located in the upper lefthand corner of Washington State and you can often see Canada from the beach shores. Eagles, deer, whales, seals, fox, and rabbits share this serene space with islanders year round and tourists in the summer. There is a great sense of community, boasting farmers markets, yoga studios, book stores, art galleries, a whale museum, and many cozy cafes, wine bars, and delicious restaurants. I grew up sailing the open sea with my family, camping on surrounding islands, sighting whales and playing in the woods and on the endless beaches. The island is a great place for hiking, kayaking, boating, fishing, quiet time, meeting new friendly people, raising children, and appreciating the simple life. Many guest houses are available for rent. It is a wonderful place to breathe and rejuvenate!
