I think Freeport is a very close community. There are many new and old small businesses downtown that allow many to shop local. There are also many activities to participate in throughout the year such as Paint the Port. I would love to change the negative comments that some Freeport residents say because just like anywhere else, there will be crime, but a crime here and there should not define a town. Many look past the great events Freeport hosts which attracts many from out of town. I also believe Freeport's academic opportunities are wonderful as students are given the option of College Now. College now allows upperclassman at Freeport High School to take classes at the local community college. Seniors graduating high school can also graduate with their associates.
I grew up here in this half sleepy little town. If its nice you can go walk around Oak Dale Forest Preserve. All though out there you have to be careful because of the simple fact the there are some kind of big cats out there. People we argue that all day but I've seen the tracks!
If you have little ones you can take them too Krape Park in the heart of the town. There they have at least five different playgrounds for children of all ages! They also have baseball diamonds, Mini Golf, a newly remodeled carasel, boat rentals, a small but still beautiful waterfall with the american flag flying at the top!
But if parks are not your cup of tea then there are lots of historical land marks around Freeport (My personal favorite being the Debate Square), cozy shops, coffee shops and restaurants around town!
I know it sounds boring. and I'm not going to lie at times it is! But this is my home town and I'm proud of it!

This is a run down town. It needs a face-lift! Many people are trying to come in and renew the town of Freeport. It has its charms, but it needs people to come in and make it the best place to live. And small business owner is sure to make a great change in the community and become a staple to the lifestyle of the community. With two high schools and many elementary schools, this town is also great for families. All types of people live in Freeport. You are sure to find the community and friends that are right for you.
