My overall experience in Frederick, Maryland has been very good! I hesitate to say "excellent" because no city is flawless, and there are things about my community that could be improved. Frederick is a very diverse county. We celebrate the diversity with festivals and local events that welcome and celebrate all. The schools in this county are all very well organized and have strong academic programs. Public transportation is reliable, and local attractions, such as the fair and Downtown Frederick, are all within close proximity of each other. There is an abundance of job opportunities for young adults in this county. There is a strong family presence, especially downtown at the mom-and-pop shops. However, there are issues, such as an opioid epidemic, that haunt this community, but we are resilient. The issue is well-known, and many people are working very hard to fight back. It's one of the many things that I love about this district. I have had a very good experience living here!
Frederick is an interesting town/city to grow up in. Earlier in the 2000's the area was plagued with drugs and crime however gentrification has solved part of the problem. In the past 5 years, we have seen a growth of businesses added to the city in addition to high quality housing. We are known as a commuter suburb of Baltimore/DC therefore we have many many people moving here. Growing up in Frederick was fun, because we had downtown Frederick, Baker Park, and were close to so many other places!
I absolutely love downtown Frederick. The town as a whole, is beautiful! Market Street and Carrol Creek have a variety of shops, bars, and restaurants, and Baker Park is at one end of Carrol Creek, with the Frederick Fair Grounds at the other end. Hood College also isn't too far from downtown. Every member of the family will be able to find something that they'll enjoy. Every first Saturday of the month there's a celebration called In the Streets. I really recommend any visitor and resident who hasn't attended to make time for it! There are all kinds of food and shop vendors, and plenty of music and entertainment! There's face painting and other activities for the kids and family. For adults going out to this event there are beer tastings at the breweries. Frederick is a city I would love to live in all around because there is also a very lively night life for college students and young adults.
