Franklin is in the heart of Metro Detroit. Large yards and abundant trees make it feel like a rural area, not the large metropolitan area it is in.
There are also some positives for young families:
1. Library, with many activities geared towards children
2. Events, Handful of events that are great for 4-12 year olds
Unfortunately there the drawbacks outweigh the benefits:
1. Well water. Rusty, stinky water that requires iron filter, water softener, and reverse osmosis system
2. Trees. While they are beautiful and calming power is lost 2-4 times per year for 2-7 days!
3. Septic/Pressure Sewer. Septic has some drawbacks, but sewer is 3x typical sewer + water rates $$$
4. Government. Arguing and attacking instead of working together
5. Losing power means losing water! No dishes, no showers, no toilets (whole house generator mandatory)
6. Business area, propped up with tax dollars preventing competition that would bring better businesses

In all of Michigan, this has got to be my favorite town to live. I've been everywhere in Michigan and Franklin just has the best of the best. Professional citizens, charming estate style homes, quaint downtown. Only the best of everything and people who really care! The Police and businesses are nothing but AMAZING! I really like that there aren’t a lot of crisp dollars flying around this town.
I think Franklin is a great place to live. It's clean and relatively safe. I've made good friends here. The public schools are top quality. It's slogan is "the town that time forgot". It's very quaint. I think some residents would like to see a bit more development with more places to shop or dine so they don't have to go to other communities to find those things.
