Overall my experience was great. I was not afraid to sleep at night because of the neighborhood. It was quiet and peaceful and the people are very nice and friendly. There was no problems with anyone. I would choose to live here again if i had my family with me.
I personally like the area i'm in. Although there isn't much to do for someone with my interests. The food is great and seems to be a great area for tourists.
The atmosphere of my neighborhood is great! The neighbors are all very friendly and considerate of one another, and you cannot beat the location. I live on the outskirts of Frankfort, so it is just a couple of miles past the city line of Utica. It is very convenient because you have the feel of the country, with the city just close enough for shopping and things of that nature.
The police mostly ticket those coming and going to work. There are not any trails to hike, walk or bicycle. There are fields if you can get a team together to play a game. There are no after school activities until high school, and no after school bus if your kids are involved in the activities. If you work in this area your family will lose out.
The pot holes could probably hit record depths for the country, especially on Pitcher st. The weather is CNY so it snows half the year is mud for three months and Sunny or rainy for the rest.
You can't beat the cost of living. You can buy a home for what you would pay for a years rent in a big city. You can afford luxury items at a great discounted rate. If you are educated you can find decent paying employment and live an easy going life.
I feel bad for the businesses. they seem to enter into the town with high hopes, only to see them going out of business the next time you drive through. There is not a lot of extra money in the area for luxury businesses.
Frankfort does not have a high crime rate. Some of the traditional values of life still seem to exist here.
There are new ethnic backgrounds melting into the town. Some of them bring new business with stores, cafes, etc.
There are opportunities to visit outdoor parks such as the schools game fields or the Herkimer County fair grounds. Otherwise the rivers have all been polluted by the dump which is still draining into it but has now been fenced off to hide it.
There are a few business owners that make wonderful Italian dishes in our area.
there are not many places to work without an education or degree. With the local gun laws going into effect the one sustainable employer in Ilion NY is now moving. I do not see the area improving only depleting.
The town is full of cliques and gossipers
The services are geared only to the poorest or the richest. If you are middle class you are sol. Child care is to high, groceries are to high, the roads are full of potholes, the cops hand out tickets during rush hour to and from work. There are not any after school programs for the kids, the schools make their own rules as they go. They hand out calenders and change the dates requesting attendance on the one week off vacations because of excess snow days, then ending the school year days early when the calendar states differently. The area is in a depression and will continue to get worst as long as manufacturing moves out and services are only provided for those who do not bother to work at all. It is a welfare area! The only hope is to get people educated.
