I hear about a lot of crimes and some shootings in town, but most of the time it is around 3am and I have never been out and about and witnessed a crime.
I love the environment and how close it is to mountains and the gorge for great hiking, the coast and lakes. Everything you'd want to go to is no more than an hour or 2 away.
I feel like my city is trying to improve the safety, but there is still a lot of changes that need to be made.
I am not fully comfortable in the neighborhood, but I do like living close to town.
I mean, every town has it's bad areas. But it could definitely be worse.
There are street lights on the main road, but near our street, there are no street lights. That would be the only problem.
I would say that the neighborhood I live in is okay. Not a lot happens, so it is calm most of the time.
Salem, Oregon is a great environmet to be a part of. Is not too far from the coast, Mt Angel, or Portland. It is the capital of Oregon. It is very green and I like that because I am a nature peaceful person. I like to hike and Oregon has a lot of trails to offer. What I admire of Oregon is that we have a law that for every tree that gets cut down, two have to get planted. In the future I see Oregon the greenest state of all.
I think the review of housing is great. There are very few vacant houses in the community I don's see and abandoned proerties. The house are well kept, however the cost of houses in this area are a little costly compared to Texas , where I came from. I think that goes alone with the cost of living . The cost of living is high also compared to Texas. I think utilities are the same . I have been told about some of the worst area here in Salem however I don't go to those area at night because I have no need.
I love living in Salem Oregon. Great place to raise children,
very quiet neighborhood with nice friendly neighbors.
I will continue to live here, but not in the same area of Salem. They are improving down town.
The weather isn't horrible, but the people are dangerous. Be careful walking the streets--or even driving--or even sitting at home watching TV.
If you're rich, then there is plenty to do! If you're low on money, you have to make your own fun, mostly by going to parks and walking around the mall.
Winter is cold and rainy, but not a lot of snow. Spring is rainy but sometimes nice. Summer is moderately hot, with the occasional rain or thunderstorm. Fall is mildly chilly and the rain starts again.
T H E M A R K E T UP THE STREET IS HIRING,AS WELL AS A NEARBY CAR LOT?THERE ARE A LOT OF TEMP AGENCIES NEARBY?
I live on the edge of city limits. You have to go a mile towards town to get to the first store or business. Retail is miles away, unless you consider Walgreens retail. The closest place for groceries is 2 miles away. The first business you reach is a gas station. There is an adult shop right across from Walgreens and some bars across from there, so there are always unruly people around. I will give props in one area: vet clinics. There is a pet clinic and an animal hospital less than a mile away.
