Working in Fortuna
Fortuna is a sweet family town, however, for a fast-paced person, it can be rather slow at times. It's a small community that is close-knit but still has a lot of extracurricular opportunities for students and the youth. The community is also very dedicated to helping the youth so you often see groups fundraising, doing activities, and going on trips for organizations. Overall growing up in a small community like this taught me many lessons, but I think it comes down to whether you are a small-town or city person.
Fortuna, the friendly city, is a great place to live. Not only is it a city, but it is a community. A strong community that works together to help pull up anyone that is struggling. Everyone knows everyone, giving it more of a family feel than just a town. The business owners all throughout town are more than willing to give back to their city. There are also many opportunities to shop local, you never have to venture far, and don't have to rely on large corporations. Year round, you can always visit Rohner Park where you can check out our roller skating rink, the Fortuna museum, and even hike through the Redwoods. Fortuna in July is the best time of year, between the Fireworks Celebration, Rodeo Week, and capped off by AutoXpo, there is something for everyone in Fortuna. While in town, you must try Bob's Footlongs, a family owned restaurant founded over 60 years ago. Fortuna is a town full of love and community that you just cannot find anywhere else!
I grew up in Fortuna, CA and found the area to be small but still offer a great community. The schools are some of the better in the county (including Academy of the Redwoods which falls in the Fortuna school district), the shopping is reasonable with Costco 20 minutes away, and the town is close to hiking and beaches in southern Humboldt, Ferndale, and Eureka. The town is much safer than Eureka, and probably one of the nicer places to live in the county.
