Fitchburg was once a small city in central Massachusetts with multiple schools and mom and pop shops all up and down Main Street. It now has fallen into disrepair, with many schools condemned due to rat infestation or sanitary conditions. The drug trafficking from Worcestor moves right through Fitchburg, leaving it a town steeped in poverty and sadness. Many once beautiful Victorian mansions are now decrepit up on the highest hills of the city, being rented out as low income apartments. I lived in Fitchburg when I was 8 and I loved my neighborhood. It appeared like all the kids and their families were nice, and I felt safe. We then discovered our neighbor molested a boy across the street. Even in the nicest neighborhoods, there was still crime. What Fitchburg needs is better opportunities for the inhabitants there. Maybe its the state's fault or maybe its the people, but something needs to be done so that people can feel safe walking the street again.

A town in the middle of the beginning stages of a Renaissance. This town has potential for much more. There have been recent initiatives to jump start the city. It is a small, but very diverse city--a small metropolis. Here you can find very good Indian food, American, Caribbean, Mexican and Asian foods as well. It is the home of Fitchburg State University, a school that has a great value education. There is not much “night life”. The city has an art museum and public library which are great, however they are opened for very limited hours. Small well rounded city with much room for growth.
My experience with the city of Fitchburg is that I have been a resident all my life. Living in Fitchburg  has been a great experience for me, what I like about living here is that we had a Community Center, the people was big on supporting and giving back, also having a local University. What I would change is the drug use that is currently affecting youth and adults. The Cleghorn Neighborhood Center, opened many doors for me including Summer up programs that keep children active during the summer time instead of getting into trouble, the best part was getting paid to have fun. I enjoyed having a place I called a second home to me, Another thing that made me admire Fitchburg was how much the community looked after each other. During Thanksgiving the St. Joseph Church would give away food to the low income families.Last but not least Fitchburg has one of the best Colleges around Fitchburg State University. Fitchburg has many great qualities except the use of drugs that affect the youth.
