We do have a homeless population and somewhat of a drug problem. However, I find it no worse than most other small cities! In fact, Fitchburg is the most unique city. The architecture is old and beautiful, and there is so much history. There's an art museum and a couple upcoming breweries. On the outskirts, it's a small town feel. Downtown it's busier and there are a few homeless people wandering about. Some of the population that hangs around down there are actually very kind! Nothing bad ever happened to me, even when I fooled around down there as a kid. I went to the public schools here my entire life, too. I got into a university where I went to school with kids who got private educations all their lives and kept up with them, if not performed better than them academically. The public schools are good and the teachers are helpful. Fitchburg is such a unique place to be if you give it a chance.

What I like about Fitchburg is its diversity of people. There's a vast number of cultures and ethnicities that make this small town in Massachusetts unique. What I would love to see changed is the complete lack of law enforcement presence during the day. It seems they only patrol the streets during late hours in the spring and summer where activities in bars are at highest but during the day time they are no where to be seen. Despite to popular belief, crime does happen during the day too. It only takes the right opportunity and timing to do someone harm in the middle of broad daylight, and that terrifies me.
Overall not bad, however I live in a gorgeous rebuilt apartment. I would like to see the center of town completely redone. Adding more grocery, restaurants, and overall shopping options. The community library is limited. The ymca is very old in this town. I believe this town has potential. Overall this isn’t the worst place to live. The people residing there that I have experienced, seem poor but overall not threatening. Boston as beautiful as it is. Due to the night life, clubs ect at night I see more crime there daily and others with erratic behavior on the roads. God bless Boston cops.
