When we moved to Missouri from another state, Festus had everything we were looking for. Excellent schools with wonderful teachers, close proximity to a metro area, easy interstate access, reasonable home prices and local jobs providing high wages. Since moving just a few years ago, Festus has continued growing with a boom currently in progress. Quaint mom and pop restaurants and stores fill a vibrant historic Main Street, popular chains are setting up shop and subdivisions are popping up all over. All of this has lead to a great increase in our property value. We have the lowest tax rate in our county but maintain the highest rated schools. We love our community and are proud to call Festus our home.
Festus is one of the most loving communities I have ever had the privilege of being a part of! I have watched everyone come together in times of need, and everyone helps one another with an open heart! Festus is truly a community of people who wear their hearts on their sleeves. There have been times I have witnessed others pay it forward time and time again, whether it be in a drive thru or in the grocery store. You hear and see so many stories of it happening, there are also times I have witnessed people help others out by taking their cart or their groceries to their car with them! My son also has a buddy that is a Police Officer, we know him as Officer Lewis. Officer Lewis is my son's "best friend", as my son says. Our community has so much love and support for one another it shows throughout, not just Festus, but Jefferson county.
Festus is a small town that has some growth but really is not changing all that much. Any growth there is there's not a lot of extra space for that growth. There are a few small parks with some playgrounds that are enjoyed by parents and children alike. Grocery stores include Schnucks, Walmart, Aldis, and Shop-n-Save. We have a hospital nearby. It is somewhat quiet town but we do have the occasional loud spurts or events. A lot of our small businesses have closed probably due to competition with chain stores and that they are out of the way. We have many empty buildings waiting for a business. We used to have a roller rink and bowling (the only things to do besides going to the theatre)but they have since closed or torn down. Around here you will see a few homeless walking around town. We also have a lot of fast food restaurants.
