Ferguson has received bad representation because of past events and am here to shed true light on the community I was raised in. Ferguson is a population of 21,000 people from all different racial backgrounds, a melting pot so to speak, who have come together to rebuild the city that was not only physically destroyed by rioters but more importantly given a false reputation by the media. The citizens have re-laid the foundation for this city to thrive again by building a Farmer's Market, a Boy's and Girls Club, a community garden, and local Brewery, local custard shop, cigar lounge, and many other local restaurants ranging from American Cuisine, Chinese, Thai, homemade Italian pizza/pasta and even brick oven pizza from local ingredients, while offering free music in the plaza and at the park once a month in the summertime as well as runs/festivals/and other local concerts to keep this community active, lively, and efficient.
Ferguson often gets a bad rap because of the negative stigma it has after the Michael Brown incident and the media coverage surrounding it. However, it doesn't deserve it. There are some great people that live there and there is really a strong sense of community within the city. In my experience, it kind of had a small town feel while still being in a suburban area which is a nice touch. Ferguson offers many great facilities like parks and recreation centers and has a thriving economy with plenty of small business lining the downtown area. However, as time goes on, it seems that crime continues to get worse and some corners of the city have fallen into disrepair. This could be an issue that continues to get worse in the future if nothing is done about it. For the time being though, I feel that it is a good place to live and doesn't deserve the bad reputation that it has.
I grew up in Ferguson. It's a small family town What is now the city of Ferguson was founded in 1855 when William B. Ferguson deeded 10 acres (4.0 ha) of land to the Wabash Railroad in exchange for a new depot and naming rights. The settlement that sprang up around the depot was called Ferguson Station.Ferguson was the first railroad station connected directly to St. Louis. The station is a focal point of the city's history and is depicted on the city flag, designed in 1994.Ferguson's first schoolhouse was built in 1878. Ferguson was incorporated as a city in 1894.
