I have lived here for 13 years and have never experienced a problem. Fairview Heights is a wonderful place to live and raise a family. It's centrally located to many different towns, i.e. 20 mins from St. Louis, and has a ton of restaurants and places to shop. Crime is very low, so not sure where the C grade is coming from. I never worry about walking around this town at night. It's peaceful and the cops here do a fabulous job of keeping it that way. I've noticed they are starting to update the outer appearance of some of the businesses in town. I truly hope they keep that momentum going!

Overall Fairview Heights has all of your basic necessities to where you don't have to travel very far for practically anything. There are many places to dine at or just grab a quick bite, as well as a variety of grocery and stores to shop at. It is a bit quieter of a city than some of the other surrounding cities and towns making it a bit more quaint and peaceful. On the downside it is an Illinois suburb which means streets are filled with numerous potholes and roadkill, and definitely one thing the city should put more attention towards.
Fairview Heights is the best city in St Clair county! Nice restaurants and attractions. It should've been the county seat, but it's not.
