Fairfax is a nice suburb town for families who like to be outdoors and socialize with others. This small town has many hiking trails like Lake Lagunitas and lots of local ice-cream parlors like Scoop. Being the home to mountain biking, you'll see many residents up in the morning biking from the Fairfax trails to local coffee shops to meet their friends. Want to participate in an activity to make new friends? Fairfax has many local events like the Fairfax Festival and a dance studio called Roco Dance, where I've danced for almost six years! I'm glad to call this tight-knit town my home!
Fairfax is a nice, family and outdoor oriented community tucked away in the hills of West Marin. It’s the birthplace of modern mountain biking, and you will see plenty of bikers around town on a daily basis. Before the pandemic, it also had a lively night-life scene, with a number of bars offering live music. Fairfax has managed to hold onto its funky hippie image over the years, though these days most people probably more identify with dot com culture rather than Woodstock. For me, the best thing about Fairfax is the outdoors. You can access miles and miles of open space, hiking and mountain biking trails, beautiful views, fresh air, wildlife, and escape from the hustle and bustle of the bay area, while still being only a 30 minute drive from downtown San Francisco. Real estate is expensive in Fairfax, but it is less expensive than in many parts of Marin. For this reason, many young families choose Fairfax as a place to put down roots.
This funky little town is where I grew up. The movie theater is one of my favorite attractions; it was recently redone and now the seats are very fancy and super comfortable! Great food along the strip: sushi, italian, thai, coffee shops, you name it. If you make a right, there are tons of little shops that are really great for gift buying and mulling around. There are a couple of bars and an active night life. Scoop is also the BEST ice cream ever and you must try it.
