Eureka is a great town to grow up in. It is a small town where everyone knows everyone, but you know that you have anyone around the corner if you are in need or in need of help. There is not necessarily a lot to do in this small town, but many towns like Peoria and Bloomington are just a short drive away.
It is a decent town to grow up in. But if you are not a part of a certain group within the community, you are looked down upon. Eureka has the main necessities but you could do much better in the Central IL area. Just 7 miles down the road is Washington (little bigger, but much more to offer plus better school system). You can wave to someone driving down the road and they will not wave back - just the way some were raised in this town. If you are looking to move here, I would advise you to look elsewhere. If you look at the positive comments, they are probably individuals who were raised just like the other 70% of the town. If you have kids, move to Washington or even Metamora. Still in the same area, they just better schools and much more to offer.
It's a decent small town. It's nice and quiet, great for raising kids. It was wonderful growing up here. But there is no movie theater, not a lot of great restaurants, and not much to do. It could stand to have a couple more fun things to do.
