Pros: Lots of access to nature. There are a lot of beaches, forests, and places to walk.
For a small town, there are a good amount of activities going on. The first Saturday of every month in Old Town is Arts Alive.
This includes lots of live music, street vendors, and open art studios.
There are also two regular farmers' markets every week when it's in season.
Good amount of local activities available on a regular basis, including live music, community classes, etc.
Lots of really good restaurants.

Cons: Rampant homelessness and drug use. Old Town is the gem of Eureka, but it has recently been overtaken by a huge open population of homeless people.
BAD HEALTHCARE! Really, really, bad, overall.
Disproportionately high crime rates for a small area.

Lived here for 3 years.Moved the family from the Bay Area. Its a beautiful coastal town with all the amenities i need. People are generally friendly, theres good schools for kids, its 15 minutes to Humboldt State University and 15 minutes to College of the Redwoods community college. Housing is affordable.Clean air and cool temperatures, easy access to beaches, lakes, rivers and the redwoods. Most things are locally owned.Theres a bunch of great bars and marijuana dispensaries.I see this town growing big time over the next 15 years.Your about 30 minutes from the Arcata airport. Its a 4 hour drive to Redding or Santa Rosa. The parks are usually really pretty and well maintained. Theres the first zoo in California here its really cute with pandas and otters and such. Great hiking, jogging paths. The fairgrounds is here so youll be able to watch events that come through town.Theres a great skatepark too.Crime here is overblown its not bad.Theres no fire fear here either due to the wet climate.
Beautiful Victorian town by the sea and surrounded by majestic redwood forests! Family friendly neighborhoods, old town by the bay. Many really good restraunts with a great array of vegan foods. The schools are well funded and all have excellent sports programs. There is a community college and a highly rated university. Eureka has a large diverse population, has a great nightlife, excellent shopping and many different job opportunities.
