If I could do it all over again, I would live in this area because it's a quiet and friendly neighborhood. Everyone keeps with their houses well compared to other areas. There's a forest, which makes it feel nature-friendly. It's not too far removed from downtown and there's easy access to restaurants / markets / shopping places. I see more residents moving into this area in the future because there is an elementary school in the front of the neighborhood as well as a walking trail.
There are parks that are preserved such as Wildlife National Parks that keep the swamps and marshes pretty and clean. Outdoor activities include exploring nature trails, fishing, boat-riding, plantation tours, soccer, football and other sports. People swim in bayous because built-in pools aren't as common here as they are in other areas. There is a good bit to do here, and plenty to keep you occupied. The city and highways are a different story entirely. There is constant littering and it is not uncommon to see someone through trash out of their car window. It's honestly revolting. The stench in the heart of the city is the reason why sometimes my New Orleans is called the Armpit of America... I love my city and all, but I frequently get embarrassed of it and the things you catch people doing and wearing in broad daylight.
There are tons of "mom-and-pop" shops that people prefer to the average Wal-Mart. We prefer hole-in-the-wall restaurants to chains and well-known ones. Small companies thrive plenty here. People prefer small cafes to Starbucks. There is a wonderful variety of options considering that our population is a melting pot. There are european grocery stores, asian food stores and asian-indian food stores as well as arabic food stores. It definitely allows the community to be exposed to and be more accepting of cultures and their peoples.
