Where I live in Essex there is a Royal Farms and a Pizza shop within walking distance of my house which is nice when you want snacks. There is also a Park that's on the water, so you can go fishing or feed the ducks.
Essex was a decent area to grow up in. It's nice to live by the water. However, there isn't much to do for fun - not many local shops and restaurants.
Essex is the only home I've ever known. Due to the close proximity of many of the local schools, many of my friends and family live within walking distance. Essex is also home to Eastern Technical High School which I attend. This is a rigorous and unique school that challenges me every day. I like these aspects of my life because it gives me sense of community and security. In many nearby areas including Essex, crimes take place. If I had to change Essex, I would reduce the crime in the area to make it safer for its residents. Essex may have its flaws, but it is my home.
Essex's history as a declining blue-collar suburb of Baltimore determines much of its current complexion. The good; its proximity to the bay and offerings in nearby Baltimore, and some affordable housing. The bad; its pervasive drug problem that drives much of the petty crime and shoplifting. As a relative Trumper stronghold, you will also see some confederate flags on trucks and flying at properties. The number of Meth-teeth addicts and pollution that washes into the watershed around Essex makes it seem like Balt. county/MD just doesn't care.
The best part of Essex is the strong community. There are a few great local restaurants that are family-friendly. On the other hand, there are many people constantly moving in and out of the area. This disrupts the community vibe. There has been an increased level of violent crimes over the past few years.
Decent town of blue collar middle class conservatives. There are some problems with section 8. Half rural half suburb good for your family and whole lot of Churches.
It is mostly working-class conservatives, with a few military people. I had my catalytic converter sawed off from under my car, and you usually smell marajuana wafting from the windows to your home. There are extremely conservative people, with old fashioned views, blue collar people, old people, section 8, and the such. Essex has protected areas, for various birds and wild life, as well as a river in some back areas. Many retire here, because of housing is cheap, for those who didn't make it too far. There is a drug problem, as with all areas. It is mostly white and black people, who have moved out of the city, and country people with big trucks and boats. Many supporters of Donald Trump also live out here. Being that I am Asian-American, and am engaged to an African American fiancee, I get a lot of dirty looks, and pressure to not be in the situation that I am in, because of the conservative racial hatred, straight-up racism, and old fashion values from the 1950's.
Very good location for children. Convenient store options and local parks for family and friends. School districts are nearby and have great opportunities for students.
Very Racist Area, police don't care. People always being killed. Its very dangerous, however it is not very loud area.
A nice quiet spot; very old neighborhood with very old residents. Extremely quiet, but also not much to do besides a few local shops. It can be annoying to have to drive out for any fun, but I wouldn't change a thing about it. Essex is the kind of place where you can walk out at night alone and the only thing you'll worry about is the mosquitoes!
The Essex area is made up of a diverse group of people. Some welcoming, some not. Future development of the area can make Essex a great destination for travelers in and out of the city of Baltimore.
I enjoy that is a little town of its own off of a busy street. the cost of living is affordable. However safety factors fluctuate with the weather. when its warmer there are many more crimes. Lastly snow days are horrible, clean up is very lazy and not helpful the snow plow trucks do not come often and when they do they leave a mess for the residents to have to shovel our cars out.
Essex is rodent infested.

It’s ok. The area is going down slowly. Over the years it has gotten to be worse as they are moving city residents out to this area. Crime is going up.
Essex has a few areas with nice houses. They have a variety of stores available. The main problem is that their is a lot of violence.
Essex is a good town. Not always the safest depending on where you are, but it is in a good location. Not too far from Baltimore, but far enough. A lot of surrounding places to shop and eat and located right on the Chesapeake bay which allows for some great views.
I am from Essex I grew up there and everyone was respectful and kind, I mean you always had your occasional bad apple; but it is not like it used to be. I left after high school and came back after inheriting my grandmother home. Seriously is this Baltimore city now?! The kids are disrespectful and rude! The parents are even worse. Crime is so high and add drugs into that factor. Downtown Essex needs a face lift....it looks the same as it did when I was younger if not worse. During Essex day last year I was behind a cop at a stop sign and their was a red car behind me the red car went in the opposite lane ran the stop sign and kept going. What did the cop do.... nothing, this is not the first time iv seen the police lacking in their duties or look the other way . Baltimore county has also not been putting money into the area for some reason.
I like essex it did take us very long to get there and and the job opportunities seem reasonable. Although at night it may get a little hectic and sometimes the neighborhood children are not very friendly if you get to know a lot of people it’s a great place to stay. I would just hope for more policemen on duty to help keep the neighborhood just a little more safe and and kind. I also would inquire about the school systems being fair, I love the opportunity it presents the kids when it comes to laptops being provided but the school seems to lack school spirt and cheer.
