The town of Emmetsburg is overall a good place to live. The only problem is that it is overrun by the elderly who pretty much run the town and unintelligent people that makes it look bad to visitors. The lake is also very fun to kayak and canoe or boat in, but I would not suggest swimming in it as there is an algae bloom at least every other summer and there are people that defecate in it. Side note the best burger in town is at a Mexican Restaurant so that's something. That is pretty much all I have to say.
It is nice to be in a small town where everyone is so welcoming, however the town is full of bias according to family names. Your typical small town.
This area has some problems, however, I feel that the positives outweigh the negatives. The people around here are friendly and it is a great place to live, as long as you can tolerate the weather, particularly in the winter.
