I have been born and raised in this city and it's the best place to live. Very cultured place and lots of activities.
Moved here from NYC, the culture is much slower here and the people are friendlier and the food is great so overall, good experience.
There are so many things I love about living here. I moved to the city about a decade ago and it has already changed a lot in that time, many ways for the better. And yet, while Elgin has definitely grown and expanded, it still somehow maintains that small town feel. If you take the time to get to know your neighbors and get involved in the community you'll be one thousand times happier for it!
Things I love:
-The variety of outdoor options we have, the river front, the parks, many natural spaces.
-The library, the heartbeat of our community, I go here at least a few times a week and the cafe inside is a hidden gem!
-How friendly people are here, almost everyone will give a wave or say hi, pretty impressive for Elgin's size.
Things I don't love:
-Lords Park Pool has been closed for too long! The people of Elgin need a place to go when it gets hot out!
-Absentee property owners, people need to provide quality housing if they are going to be renting out their place to other people.

I was born and raised in Elgin, IL. In fact, I only lived in 2 houses in Elgin, and attended pre-K through 12th grade in Elgin School District U46. For the last 7 years I have also attended church in Elgin, and have done volunteer work as well. I work at our local Culver's. My hometown is important to me, as it is home to some of the most important people in my life. I have developed relationships that will last throughout my life, no matter where I go. Elgin has a vibrant, diverse core to it. I have always been passionate about equality, and living in Elgin has provided me ways to advocate for that.
I've moved to Elgin, IL from the state of Hawaii. All of Elgin is filled with kind and generous people. I also like that there are many things to do from restaurants, gyms, parks, to malls.
A Unique community with a majority of Latino community and delicious Latino dishes. Elgin is known a for its Victorian era and makes you feel at home.
Elgin is awesome. There is always something going on. Our police force is very present in our community. We have a cultural center as well as our own library. We have a symphony orch as well as a youth symphony orch.
Moved here about a year ago and couldn't be happier with the decision. Living in the Historic District on the east side of town has been a great experience, our new neighbors have been so warm and welcoming and we love the feeling of community you can find here.
Highlights include:
-The parks, Lord's, Channing, the River Walk, etc.
-The library, an invaluable community resource
-All of the beautiful old homes in the neighborhoods.
-And, of course, there are great establishments for eating and drinking: Verns, EPH, Kubo, Paul's, Ray's (a lot of possessive male restaurant names around here), all great!

I have not complaints about Elgin. It’s peaceful. Depending on the area, stores are convenient. Safe for families.
Elgin is such a fun place, and it is really safe. It is jammed packed with so much to do, i've made so many friends here, that I never feel unwelcomed.

Great family focused community. Very diverse area with resources available. This area has many public schools, however I am not familiar with the schools
Elgin is a calm and large neighborhood, great for families and pets. The schools are usually within walking distance and have great teachers, nurses, Principals.
Great city to live in.
I would love to see in Elgin more bars/restaurants with live music (especially Jazz).

I love Elgin. Although every city had its down backs, I say Elgin is awesome. My family and I have lived here most of my life, the school district is nice, the city itself has low crime rates and it was rated #4 best city in Illinois in 2019. I believe that can be credited to our library which is an incredible resource and provides so much to our community. We stand teogther. We are Elgin in Illinois
