Elgin Oklahoma is a fast-growing little town north of the greater Lawton/Fort Sill area. Fort Sill, dubbed the Fires Center of Excellence is an Army training post that has about 20,000 soldiers that are either training or permanent party who are full-time residents. There is a large health clinic and several training facilities that employ a large civilian workforce. The town of Elgin has grown out of the need to house these service-members/civilians and their families which lends to a more diverse population. The town itself is small, but the school district covers a large area and has a large variety of sports they offer, and educational opportunities. Elgin is also just 15 miles from the beautiful Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge where there are ample hiking trails, lakes and a small mountain range to explore!

Elgin is a small town in southwestern Oklahoma. It is close to the Fort Sill Army base, which accounts for Elgin’s large military population. The school and community are very supportive and have numerous town events. However, Elgin is a small town and therefore has few things to do for entertainment and little grocery or shopping centers. Most people drive the short route to Lawton to buy groceries and other supplies. Overall Elgin is and average Oklahoma town with great schools and a supportive community with a safe and friendly atmosphere.
Elgin, Oklahoma has changed so much since I moved here in 2010. The community has grown quite a bit. The range of diversity has increased and there have been expansions made to the community. The schools keep growing and every year we have an influx of new students- usually because there are many military families that get sent here. The population rising has made it easier for larger businesses to set up in town. There have been new additions to the schools such as the brand new football field, a new auditorium, etc..
