Elgin Reviews
Rating 3.53 out of 5 15 reviews
Elgin Oklahoma is a fast-growing little town north of the greater Lawton/Fort Sill area. Fort Sill, dubbed the Fires Center of Excellence is an Army training post that has about 20,000 soldiers that are either training or permanent party who are full-time residents. There is a large health clinic and several training facilities that employ a large civilian workforce. The town of Elgin has grown out of the need to house these service-members/civilians and their families which lends to a more diverse population. The town itself is small, but the school district covers a large area and has a large variety of sports they offer, and educational opportunities. Elgin is also just 15 miles from the beautiful Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge where there are ample hiking trails, lakes and a small mountain range to explore!
Elgin, Oklahoma is a small but friendly town. There are quite a few families who have been there for some time, but as time passes, it has become a popular location for military families. It is safe, has a great school system, and is always community-oriented. The town has grown a lot and will continue to do so, even if some want to keep it small. The main changes that would need to happen would be a remodeling of the town itself. I mean a complete from the ground up reconstruction. Most of the roads and buildings, aside from the school, are outdated or need major upgrades. They also do not have a lot to do for fun, such as; arcades, a mall, or any real entertainment center for people to hang out. The nightlife is practically non-existent, as there is really nothing to do past dark. Other than that, it has what is needed to be considered a town. Elgin has a few restaurants, a couple of stores, and plenty of services. The town may not be much, but it has plenty of potentials.
Elgin is a quickly growing town, with an increase in population. Although it has everything a person would need, I think Elgin would benefit more with larger roads (i.e. more lanes) and better controlled traffic (i.e. traffic lights).
