I've lived outside of Eldon for about 10 years. It is a small town that kind of has a bigger town feel to it. This town has a lot of poverty and a bit of a drug problem. Part of this is due to the fact that the community does a lot for the poor. The school district is very good and has some of the top test scores in the state. This town has come a long way since I first moved out here and it continues to get better. Newer and nicer houses are being built. The commute time and job opportunities in the area are great being so close to Jefferson City and the Lake of the Ozarks. In other words Eldon is a very nice town with it's flaws just like any other town.
Eldon is truly the "gateway to the lake". It's a small town where if you actually live or work here, you know all of the locals and they know you. Occasionally Eldon will get something new, like a nice local coffee shop. Residents typically are interested in new businesses around here.
I've lived Eldon all of my life. It's a very family-oriented town, there is always a friendly face that is willing to help you if needed. Eldon has came a long way throughout the years. The neighbors growing up weren't the best to look at, but now as an adult, it is starting to really improve. Great place for young families to start.
