I have lived here most of my life. El Dorado is a small city of 18,883. It enjoyed a 300% surge during the 1920’s where it was the center of the Oil Boom. Many historic properties still exist and have been lovingly preserved. Our downtown has won awards for being the best Main Street in America. It is a Mecca for artists and musicians.Colorful fabric awnings adorn our shops and restaurants. It is the World Headquarters for Murphy Oil Corporation which has funded the El Dorado Promise paid scholarships for students attending our public schools.Hunting, fishing and hiking is in abundance. Our MusicFest is always well-attended every October drawing famous musicians, food trucks and craftspeople from many states away. El Dorado is a great town for starting off or slowing down. There is something for everyone.
It's a beautiful area with industrial job opportunities. They've focused heavily to create an entertainment district, but it's not well diversified. There's stark differences in neighborhoods. Rarely do you see events with a wide variety diverse individuals attending. There's also nothing here for teenagers, children, or toddlers.
I have lived in El Dorado for all 18 years of my life up to this point. El Dorado definitely has a small town feel. The historic downtown is personally my favorite part of El Dorado, home to many small businesses, boutiques, shops, and family-owned businesses. The El Dorado school district does not have high ratings at this time, but they do present the opportunity for students to get part or full tuition paid ar college called the El Dorado Promise, funded by Murphy. El Dorado has recently added a Murphy Arts District, MAD, which has hosts events like concerts. El Dorado also has a K-12 School called West Side Christian School, if you don’t like the public school district or want a different type of education for your child that offer your child a unique opportunity. Although it isn’t perfect, it’s a great family-friendly place to call home.
