I've lived in the Edwardsville/Glen Carbon area my whole life (17 years). I think it's a fine place to live, but I have a few gripes about it.
Pros:
Safety - I feel very safe living here in Edwardsville, as I see police cars driving around everywhere
People - the people that live around here are very nice

Cons:
- It's in Illinois, where Pritzker and Madigan and their buddies only care about
Chicago and not anybody around here
- Taxes - property taxes and income taxes
- Edwardsville is becoming Fairview with all the shopping and restaurants
