I've lived in Edgewood NM for many years having come from Albuquerque and a smaller NM town before that. Edgewood is very safe, quiet and peaceful. There aren't a lot of activities here for adults or kids - mostly you must travel to Alb for that. Most roads are not paved which means LOTS of dust and mud, properties are usually at least one acre with some larger ranches around. Schools are okay - South Mountain received an A+ rating, there's a decent mid school but no high school - you either go to Moriarty HS which is a whole different dynamic/culture than Edgewood or you try and get in to East Mtn charter in Cedar Crest. There is a very conservative K-12 state charter school here too. Several medical/dental options, several good vets, a super walmart, Smiths grocery, a few small shops, fast food, a couple overpriced restaurants . A giant soccer field that some locals use as their dogs' personal pooping ground, lots of rednecks, and horribly windy about 10 months out of the year.
Edgewood is considered "the country" or "the other side of the mountain" to people who live in Albuquerque. It is a relatively small town. In 2016 there were almost 4000 people who lived there. You will almost never see all of these people at once. They typically stay to themselves. There are two grocery stores and a few places to eat. I would say that it is enough to get by. There are two real beauties to living in Edgewood. The first is the actual natural beauty all around. There are some trees, beautiful mountains, and awe inspiring sunsets. The second is its proximity to Albuquerque. You can live in a small town but be in a big city in 20-30 minutes. People may complain about that commute, but it is not a lot of traffic. Compared to living on the westside of Albuquerque and commuting into the heart of the city, the drive from Edgewood is a piece of cake.
Small town, friendly people, good schools, beautiful views. Lots of medical care options: regional medical facility, dentists, physical therapy, chiropractic, alternative wellness, and veterinarians for our animal-loving community. New hotel. Hiking and horse trails. Soccer field hosts sports year-round, Celtic Fest, art festivals and music/car events. Wildlife nature park, fly-in/out residential airpark, and premiere shooting sports facilities. Mom & Pop shops/restaurants nicely balance chain stores. Just 25 min to ABQ/60 min to SF.
