I loved the college atmosphere in East Lansing while I attending Michigan State University! My studies were challenging but engaging. The night life and tailgates made every weekend worth staying instead of traveling home. The commute time was never bad as East Lansing is based around Michigan State University. I wouldn't rate this as the most family friendly town, simply because college students can get loud and rowdy! However, there are some cute suburb neighborhoods for families who want to live in the area. Housing could be a little expensive due to the extent of college students in the area. Overall, I wouldn't change a thing about my time in East Lansing.
East Lansing is a great area to live in if you are a student, a small family, or a single professional. The restaurant and supermarket options are adequate but the variety of food shops could be more diverse and appealing. It is a college towns so there is a good range of diversity. East Lansing since it is a college town is home to bars and nightclubs for weekend festivities although there are other areas that are more entertaining. East Lansing Public Schools is a pretty good school system. Despite being a college town, East Lansing has a very chill atmosphere - there are some disagreeable individuals but they tend to be vastly outnumbered by the amount of kind individuals present. There are a good range of job opportunities, especially with having Michigan State University located in East Lansing. Housing is becoming a tad bit more expensive but not drastically expensive.
I grew up in and around East Lansing and am currently attending college there at MSU! It is definitely a college campus so If you do not enjoy the busy college students attempting to get to their classes without looking before they cross the street I would not recommend.
