If you’re a rich poser (upper middle class) who wants to rub elbows with the select few billionaire elite in W. Michigan who sometimes dine at Bowdies, EGR is for you. I’ve lived in EGR for 8 years and saw the worst sides of humanity come out during COVID. Everyone was shuttered in their individual households, taking full advantage of ppp loans and low interest, buying lake homes to escape to and rent out to the plebes, or remodeling their home. I have never seen such mud slinging and selfish people on our previously quiet neighborhood pages. In case a bunch of upper middle class white people and lack of apparent caste system makes you uncomfortable, don’t worry. We’ve set up the caste with our elementary school reputations. Breton is the poor school, Wealthy is the wealthy school, and Lakeside is the redhead middle child and the worst of all. Unless you’re from here originally, it is very hard to find your place. Buyer beware.
Are you White? Are you Christian? Are you Upper Middle Class with aspirations of being in the 1% so basically as bougie as they get? Then this is the place for you! Its beautiful with clean, safe neighborhoods, a massive lake /park, quaint downtown area excellent schools and lots of greenery. You will fit right in with your neighbors as you gossip about who has more money and how small someone's lake cabin is. You will all go to the same three restaurants every week and see your neighborhoods at every school event all the time. Everyone will know your business because they are so bored there is nothing else to talk about
You will consider yourself superior to people in other parts of The US or in the rest of Grand Rapids for that matter. Go East! You will rarely interact with a person of color and will absolutely be racist but will not understand that you are as you have no frame of reference for the real world but then again, that's why you moved here, right? Welcome to the bubble

East Grand Rapids is quiet compared to downtown Grand Rapids. I currently attend a university near the East side and love to go into the heart of East Grand Rapids for walks. Reeds Lake Trial is a popular trial and would be highly recommended. East Grand Rapids is close to main chain stores and mom and pop shops, creating diversity. There is also a diverse population as well, giving people the opportunity to experience culture. I would consider it to be a wealthy suburb of Grand Rapids with a country feel. It is not congested in any way. It is also safe compared to many big cities. Extremely nice area to live in.
