Are you White? Are you Christian? Are you Upper Middle Class with aspirations of being in the 1% so basically as bougie as they get? Then this is the place for you! Its beautiful with clean, safe neighborhoods, a massive lake /park, quaint downtown area excellent schools and lots of greenery. You will fit right in with your neighbors as you gossip about who has more money and how small someone's lake cabin is. You will all go to the same three restaurants every week and see your neighborhoods at every school event all the time. Everyone will know your business because they are so bored there is nothing else to talk about
You will consider yourself superior to people in other parts of The US or in the rest of Grand Rapids for that matter. Go East! You will rarely interact with a person of color and will absolutely be racist but will not understand that you are as you have no frame of reference for the real world but then again, that's why you moved here, right? Welcome to the bubble

East Grand Rapids is an amazing small community full of caring and kind families and people. It has an awesome school district with great teachers just waiting to teach your kiddos to the best of their ability. As an EGR alumni I can say I could not have asked for a better place to live and grow. I hope if you consider living here be prepared to have an amazing little community with a quaint little area called Gaslight where you can hang and have a great time!
EGR is a great place to grow up and raise kids, but it's definitely obvious why so many people call it "the bubble" or liken it to Pleasantville (the movie). Almost all of the streets have sidewalks, most teachers in the schools live here, and playgrounds abound and there are little kids everywhere. The high school always ranks in the top 20 public high schools in MI and the educational opportunities from grades K-12 can't be beat. However, there is very little diversity and EGR becomes more and more unaffordable by the day as modest houses that are in good shape are torn down to build McMansions on every corner. The downtown Gaslight Village area also leaves a lot to be desired- parking is a mess so local businesses are constantly moving in and out and more chains are moving in and independent businesses are moving out. All of the public schools are very walkable and it is a very short drive to downtown GR.
