I have lived here since 2001, and raised 3 sons here. We love the amazing parks-- green space abounds here! The accessibility and convenience to the Metro, although everything you need is here also. We have the Eagan Outlet Mall, MOA within 10 mins, Vikings practice facility, every grocery story and restaurant. There are 3 school districts here. If you are in a wealthier tax base district, it will have better schools. This is not just Eagan of course, but that is the unfair truth of school districts in general. So, I am rating schools average, though some are so much better than that, even within a less affluent district. People here are friendly and helpful, and I love our diverse neighborhood.
Eagan is a growing community that keeps getting better! With its well laid out shopping areas, recreational areas, and overall infrastructure, Eagan is a great place to live! There is a place to visit for every mood: if you want to hang out with friends, there are many parks and the Eagan Outlet Mall is a great place to shop. The Wescott Library is a great place to find books, DVDs, and magazines of different genres. The Eagan Market Fest is another great place to be in the summers, with its fresh produce to live concerts. The people are also really nice! Overall, Eagan is a great place to be!
I’ve lived in Eagan for one year now and moved from Minneapolis. From my perspective as a person in their mid 30’s and a young family with small children, Eagan leaves much to be desired. It’s got a lot going for it - nice houses, neighborhoods, parks, amenities, etc. But it is a typical bedroom community suburb with a lack of “community” feeling.
There are young families scattered around neighborhoods but it’s hard to connect, due to lack of proximity and also no good central, “downtown” meeting area.
Majority older people who’s kids are grown, are on the cusp of retiring, and not ready to move yet. As one older neighbor put it, they love (their) Eagan neighborhood...same neighbors for 30 years. That great for them but not for me.
