Great for families, singles and pets. Friendly and safe community. If Dunwoody doesn't have what you need, it'll be within a 30 min drive. Convenient Marta trains to midtown, downtown and airport. GSU Dunwoody campus, 30 min to Emory and GA Tech. Great hospitals and medical services, retail, Corporate offices of Mercedes, State Farm, Hospitality located within city. Fine and chain restaurants. Dunwoody has it all!
Dunwoody is a relatively small suburban town just outside Atlanta's northern perimeter. It has easy access to shopping, medical care, restaurants, nightlife and more but you're going to need a car to get to any of that. It could still be an hour's commute to a job in downtown Atlanta if traffic is stalled in the least. People are conservative but not smothering. The Arts isn't thriving but they are there. Close access to Chattahoochie National Recreation Area and other parks. Better for families than singles, better for wage earners than those struggling. It's overwhelmingly white but not unwelcoming to people of color. Taxes are serious but not oppressive. Prospespecitve homeowners should rent in the area for a while before purchasing to narrow down their preferences. Overall, a very good place for a worker or retiree. Trees abound and you will experience all four seasons.
The community really rallys around its schools! Im a student at Dunwoody High School and I must say that the teaching staff there is really quite incredible. That said, the community and the school have some SERIOUS flaws. The school is increasingly overcrowded and the roads are completely overwhelmed with traffic. The community is very sheltered and people often use the phrase ¨The Dunwoody Bubble" to describe how cut off Dunwoody is from the rest of the world. The well-off suburban neighborhoods of Dunwoody, GA are incredibly homogenous, politics are extremely divisive, and the school remains heavily segregated to this day. I have met a select few incredible people in my time at Dunwoody and the school can do you a lot of good if youre willing to work, which is why I have given it 4 stars, but theres far more to this community than meets the eye.
