I love Duluth! I've lived here just over 10 years and I love it. I grew up in Barstow, CA which is the high desert. So it was a culture shock and an extreme temperature switch from the hot dry desert with almost no snow in the winter to the long cold winters of Duluth MN. Took some getting used to but it's very doable. The hills that are the backdrop to Lake Superior give the town a beauty that you'll fall in love with. With the flat drab view of Superior WI right across the way there's plenty to appreciate in Duluth. We have many outdoor trails that wind through the city giving the town a feel that it's a mix of city life with the woods intertwined all throughout. There's plenty to do if you love the outdoors. Shops, restaurants, bars and plenty of tourist sites to see. With lots of sites not far away from Duluth you can discover many interesting things you'll love about Duluth and the surrounding area.
Duluth housing is the terrible, crime is high, the city is expensive and mostly just a luxury that many locals can't afford. Duluth also has many natural beauties which does make it a great place for outdoor activists!
Living in Duluth Minnesota brings about a strange pride and a sense of community that one can only share with their fellow Duluthians. It takes a special people to carry on through negative temperatures and mountains of snow. Through it all, when living in Duluth, you know that you are not alone and that "Minnesota nice" will form an even stronger sense of community after a snow storm. Duluth is known for its beautiful views of Lake Superior, hiking trails and I would even argue its people. From college town young adults to hometown favorites, this town truly has a place for every type of person.
