It's a lovely suburb with a good balance between huge supermarkets & shopping outlets, and plenty of trees & small businesses. It feels simultaneously cozy (like a quaint small town) and busy (like a mini city, but with much more wildlife)! There is a nice variety of shops and restaurants, and the scenery ranges from whimsical gardens (that look like they belong in a fairy tale) to sleek, almost-metropolitan architecture (shiny marble buildings, streamlined crosswalks & intersections).
Downingtown is a wonderful area! The neighborhoods are beautiful, the schools are amazing, and the people are very kind. There are plenty of great places to visit and hang out with friends. The parks are also very beautiful in the summer and always packed full of people who are enjoying the many water sports that are available. Downingtown has been one of the best area I've lived in.
What I like to see change in Downingtown is the fact that many of the people that live in our suburban neighborhood cut down the trees while also wishing to practice green methods. There’s not a day that goes by really don’t hear the buzz of a chainsaw cutting down the great Oaks in the pines and the poplars that all lined the neighborhood of Downingtown. I’m wishing to get into a field in which I can encourage conservation mean while also practicing methods in which we can ensure the biodiversity and the preservation of the native species in Pennsylvania are safely protected. I’d like to see change as well the looks people give me when I’m on my front lawn planting trees- it’s almost as if it is a look of disgust. I’ve planted red buds along our street and the neighbors all seemed appalled by this. I wish for Downingtown to become more eco-conscious.
