A growing and thriving city. There is a lot of potential for more growth and opportunities. Downey is located in the center of most freeways, making it an extremely attractive city for commuting or traveling. Los Angeles Times has called Downey "The Beverly Hills for Mexicans." Streets are sprinkled with beautifully designed multi-million dollar houses in the northern area. This city also has so much historical buildings from having the first Taco Bell building built here, from having the oldest operating Mcdonald's, to Boeing in Downey building parts of spaceships which the location has now turned into a popular promenade and shopping center.

I have lived in Downey all of my life, 18 years to be exact. This city has improved for the better drastically. There is much more diversity and thins to do now. They have a space museum, art galleries, parks, shopping centers, restaurants, you name it. Downey has recently added a new shopping center called The Promenade and it contains several of different resturants, dessert places, clothing stores, and a movie theater. There is a lot of ambiance here and it is very family friendly. I consider it a safe area because I have never had any bad encounters, nor my friends or family. I went to school in Downey all 13 years of my life, including preschool, and had an overall amazing experience. I created many different friends and was able to see all of the schools improve as well with the new construction they were doing. I am so thankful to have been able to grow up in such an amazing city and I am so happy to see it improve day by day.
Downey has very much evolved during the years in which I started living here and now. When I first immigrated to the United States at 5 years old, the first city I ever moved to Downey. It was not very modern, did not have many businesses, and lacked a sense of community. Now that I am graduating college, as life would have it, I have moved back to Downey. I was impressed by the amount of small, trendy stores that have opened that contribute to its growing economy and how the community has grown as whole, thanks to the residents. The improvement I have seen in this city throughout these years is really astonishing and I'm proud to live here.
