Derby is a great family-friendly place to live. There are plenty of jobs for teenagers, and most of the residents work in Wichita which is only twenty-thirty minutes away. There are many parks and great school around for younger kids, there is even a water park! Derby is a great place to live and raise a family.
My experience in Derby, Kansas has had its ups and downs. When I first moved there, I felt as though I wasn't welcome; however, as I grew older, my feelings changed. The city is nice, and the town offers a lot for the community to come together. From hosting festivals in the park, to parades down Madison Avenue, Derby never has a dull moment. The schools are excellent as well, with friendly teachers and many peers to be friends with. I am sad that my senior year at Derby High School had to come to an unexpected end, but I still wouldn't trade my experience there for anything else in the world. I feel safe in Derby, and many of my friends and family members would agree with me. The worst thing that has happened to my family was that one of our cars got broken into, but that was quickly responded to and resolved by the local authorities, which gives me faith in my safety in Derby.
Grew up in Derby, so it is home. Moved away and came back. However, it’s not the same. It has grown so much! Not necessarily a bad thing. There is so much here it’s convenient for shopping without having to go to Wichita. Very nice town, most residents take great pride in their property and community. Schools seem to have declined some since I attended, again I believe because of the rapid growth. Nice place to live!
