There is so much to love about Denton! There is great local food and coffee, and a lot of local music because of UNT's music school. The city can feel small, but actually spreads out wider than you realize at first, and there is more to explore than meets the eye. It also just has a wonderful character that is really unique from many Texas cities. It's very nice to be within an hour to Dallas and Fort Worth.
Because the job pool is not huge, depending on your field it is possible that you'll have a long daily commute to a nearby suburb. There also are not currently many transportation options for people who don't have a car. Some areas are walkable, but some definitely are not, and the bus system can be unreliable.

We’ve lived here sine 1995. Hoping to move out of Denton. Used to love it. Not anymore.
It’s diverse, different mind sets, access to groceries, restaurants doctors, haircuts, theater, places to worship, etc… We’ve lived here sine 1995.
apartments going up everywhere and green space is being built on by some sort of low cost housing (or track homes in massive treeless neighborhoods) or yet another big box store. Construction, pollution and crowding is everywhere in this town.
Homelessness is everywhere. In fact, Denton loves them so much that they’re building a huge facility for many of them to live here. In addition, the crime is bad. Also, It is loud, polluted here now and it just feels like everywhere you turn it’s so crowded and noisy and sirens and airplanes. Etc... Sadly, based on the estimates from our local leaders, this “small town“ will keep going in this direction and keep getting larger. Did I mention the property taxes!..yikes!

Friendly community, diverse arts district, plenty of job opportunities! Great for young people looking to meet new people or to start a career, and many of its surrounding cities offer welcoming communities to settle down and create a home.
