Working in DeLand
We moved to DeLand several years ago and thought it was a great little town ~ loved the close access to shopping, beaches, Disney, etc. However, year after year the drug activity seems to increase at an alarming rate. More and more Section 8 housing infiltrates nice neighborhoods and ruins the property values for homeowners in those areas. I can't count the number of times my children and I have been approached by drug addicts or homeless people while downtown. It's pretty ridiculous! DeLand seems to cater to these types of people and having places like the Neighborhood Center doesn't help at all.
I LOVE Deland. It is a wonderful downtown small business section that holds all kinds of event year-round. It is a college town with Stetson nearby and also many families. It is growing! The art shows, music festivals, Friday farmers market, Athen's Theatre, local parks and wonderful downtown restaurants. They don't have great public schools though because this is Volusia county. If your child is advanced enough though, Daytona State has great dual enrollment option. It isn't that safe outside of main street.
Beautiful old city that won “America’s Best Main Street” (or something like that!). Lovely, quaint, and funky shops and restaurants; beautiful old 1920s houses; nearby parks and springs; and located between the beach and Central Florida towns/cities like Winter Park and Orlando. Love this place!
